Puerto Princesa is about 490 nautical kilometers from Manila or an hour’s plane ride. There are a few stories on the origin of its name. This town became a regular municipality on 1916 and was formerly a barrio of Taytay and known as Talindok since its inception in 1882. Chinese traders had been visiting the town long before Spaniards came. Its edible birds nest and tourism industry is very popular in international market. There are at least six lagoons in El Nido, the most famous and easily accessible are the big and small lagoons at Miniloc Island. Believed to be cave whose roofs collapsed millions of years ago, the Big and Small lagoons are best explored on a kayak or while snorkelling.
